Description
This is a brown salt glaze stoneware bottle with the name, "T. Field Potter Sydney" on one side of the bottle. The bottle is 6 1/2" tall.Thomas Field was born in 1814 in Barnett, Middlesex. He learnt pottery from JA Gransby from 1838-1841 at the "Pottery & Brick Tile Manufacturer" near London. He moved to Sydney as a "free settler" in 1842, and started his own business T. Field & Co. at the south end of George Street, near what is now Central Station. He made ginger beer and cordial bottles until his retirement in around the1870's or 1880's. He won awards for his creations, water pipes, coolers, drain pipes, jars, etc.
This is a beautiful brown salt glaze stoneware bottle. It is in great condition except for the 1/2" chip under the name, as shown.
