PASS3 Bypass Module for Remote Starting
Programming the PASS3 Transponder The PASS3 transponder must be programmed to be recognized by the vehicle's PATS system.
If your application is not listed below, the programming procedure is usually found in the vehicle's owner's guide.
1998 Continental, Crown Victoria, Explorer, Grand Marquis, Mountaineer and Town Car
1) Complete the installation of the PASS3 transponder.
2) Two programmed keys are required. Turn the ignition switch on (leave on at least 1 second), then off with the first programmed key. Remove the first key from the ignition switch.
3) Within 5 seconds, insert the second key and turn the ignition switch on, then off. Remove the second key from the ignition switch.
4) Within 10 seconds, activate the remote starter unit.
5) If the PASS3 transponder was successfully programmed, the engine remains running. If the THEFT light flashes and the engine stalls, reposition the PASS3 transponder. All keys programmed previously will still operate. 1998-99 Contour and Mystique
1) Complete the installation of the PASS3 transponder.
2) Turn the ignition switch on and off 3 times with a programmed key. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
3) Within 5 seconds, activate the remote starter unit.
4) If the PASS3 transponder was successfully programmed, the THEFT light will be on for 2 seconds and the engine remains running. If the THEFT light flashes and the engine stalls, reposition the PASS3 transponder. All keys programmed previously will still operate.
1998-99 Full Size Pickup, Expedition and Navigator
1) Complete the installation of the PASS3 transponder.
2) Turn the ignition switch on and off with a programmed key. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

The THEFT light will be on for 2 seconds
and the engine remains running. If the THEFT light flashes and the engine stalls, reposition the PASS3 transponder. All keys programmed previously will still operate. 1998-99 Mark VIII
1) Complete the installation of the PASS3 transponder.
2) Turn the ignition switch on with a programmed key. After the Anti-Theft light stays on 3 seconds, remove the key from the ignition switch.
3) Within 15 seconds, activate the remote starter unit.
4) If the PASS3 transponder was successfully programmed, the Anti-
Theft light will be on for 3 seconds and the engine remains running.
If the Anti-Theft light flashes and the engine stalls, reposition the PASS3 transponder.
All keys programmed previously will still operate. 1996-99 Mustang, Taurus and Sable
1) Complete the installation of the PASS3 transponder.
2) Turn the ignition switch on, then off with a programmed key. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
3) Within 15 seconds, activate the remote starter unit.
4) If the PASS3 transponder was successfully programmed, the THEFT light will be on for 2 seconds and the engine remains running. If the THEFT light flashes and the engine stalls, reposition the PASS3 transponder. All keys programmed previously will still operate. 1998-99 Mustang, Sable and Taurus
If the THEFT light flashes and the engine
stalls, reposition the PASS3 transponder. All keys programmed previously will still operate. Permanently adhere the transponder in place with epoxy resin or silicone sealant. Then, thoroughly test the remote starting unit's operation before reassembling the steering column and dash parts. PASS3 Bypass Module for Remote Starting The Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) utilizes Passive Transponder technology. Specialized ignition keys are used with vehicles equipped with this system. These keys contain a Passive Transponder, which is a miniature radio transmitter.
The system within the vehicle will not allow the engine to remain running unless it receives a digitally-encoded radio signal from Passive Transponder within the key. Adding a remote starting unit to vehicle equipped with PATS also requires adding the PASS3 bypass module. The PASS3 only bypasses the PATS system during remote starting; the PATS system remains operational and effective at all other times. The Passive Transponder is a miniature radio receiver and transmitter that requires no batteries. When the ignition switch is turned on, the PATS system transmits Radio Frequency (RF) energy. This energy is received by the Passive Transponder in the key, stored, then used as the operating power for its own signal transmission back to the PATS system. The signal transmitted by the Passive Transponder contains a digitally-encoded message which the PATS system has previously been programmed to recognize. When the PATS control unit receives the correct signal, the vehicle can be started and the engine remains running.
All of these operations take only milliseconds.
Operation of the PATS system requires no conscious action on the part of the user - when the key with the Passive Transponder is inserted into the switch, the transponder is within range of the antenna. The radio transmissions are then made when the ignition switch is turned on and the engine is allowed to start and remain running.
The PATS system has a special antenna, which is part of the Transceiver Module, mounted behind the steering column trim panel.
The PATS system has a special antenna, which is part of the Transceiver Module, mounted behind the steering column trim panel. This antenna appears as a Black collar around the ignition switch. Follow these steps:
1) Remove the steering column trim panels. Locate the Black PATS antenna collar.
2) Route the Red 3-pin connector to Omega remote starter module; all other remote starter connections should be made first.
3) Position the PASS3 transponder as shown in the diagram; it can be held in place temporarily with tacky tape.
4) Follow the programming instructions on the reverse side.
5) Upon successful programming of the PASS3 transponder, permanently adhere the transponder with epoxy or silicone.
6) Thoroughly test the remote starting unit's operation before reassembling the steering column and dash parts.
