This rare Wittelsbach Prussia/Germany large tankard or beer mug by celebrated French artist Elisabeth Louise Vigee-LeBrun is so unique. The antique dark green/teal mug is 7” tall with a 3” opening; the painted handle is about 4” for a good grip on your favorite beverage! It’s title Four Portrait Melon Eaters is about 5 ¼” x 4 ¼” has the central scene of two boys eating melons while their dog looks for a taste! The four portraits surrounding this main one measure 2 ½” x 2” and include: #1 Elisabeth LeBrun #2 Countess Potocka #3 Elisabeth LeBrun #4 Madame Recamier The four portraits and central scene are framed in gold detail, as well as the opening and base. This rare Wittelsbach Prussia/Germany large tankard or beer mug by celebrated French artist Elisabeth Louise Vigee-LeBrun is so unique.  The antique dark green/teal mug is 7” tall with a 3” opening; the painted handle is about 4” for a good grip on your favorite beverage! It’s title Four Portrait Melon Eaters is about 5 ¼” x 4 ¼” has the central scene of two boys eating melons while their dog looks for a taste!  The four portraits surrounding this main one measure 2 ½” x 2” and include:

The four portraits and central scene are framed in gold detail, as well as the opening and base.  The bottom has the Wittelsbach Germany logo.  It is in very good condition except for some paint worn off the handle and a chip on the base that does not distract from the beauty.
Elisabeth Louise Vigee Le Brun (April 16, 1755 – March 30, 1842) was a prominent French portrait painter of the late 18
th
century.
Her artistic style is generally considered part of the aftermath of Rococo
with elements of an adopted Neoclassical
style.  Her subject matter and color palette can be classified as Rococo, but her style is aligned with the emergence of Neoclassicism. Vigée Le Brun created a name for herself in Ancien Regime
society by serving as the portrait painter to Marie Antoinette
and other European monarchs and nobles, as well as for many self-portraits.
. She enjoyed the patronage of European aristocrats
, actors, and writers, and was elected to art academies in ten cities.
